What is BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple measure using your height and weight to work out if your weight is healthy. It was developed in the 1830s by Belgian mathematician Adolphe Quetelet and remains one of the most widely used screening tools today.

BMI Categories

β–  Under 18.5 Underweight
β–  18.5 – 24.9 Normal weight
β–  25.0 – 29.9 Overweight
β–  30.0 and above Obese

Limitations of BMI

BMI does not measure body fat directly. It can overestimate fat in athletes (who have more muscle) and underestimate it in older adults. Always consult a healthcare professional for a complete health assessment.
